3- They will be advised that joining the forum is providing to be member of the Assembly and getting a voice and a vote on questions regarding our region.

4- A message must be placed on the Free Society Web page to advise that a resigstration to the Forum is mandatory.

5- Messages of what is going on on the forum must be published on the Free Society Web page to encourage Nations to suscribe.

6- A Nation who decides to join the region have 7 days to join the forum.

Highly Esteemed Leader of Aidsboat,

Welcome to the game of NationStates. NationStates is one of the largest populated nation simulation games online, and I'm certain that you're excited to be able to dive right into it. However, before you can truly begin to play the game there are some things that should be brought to your attention. Firstly and most importantly, where should your nation be located?

Within NationStates everyone may choose where he or she wishes to place his or her nation, obviously this includes you. Choosing a region is probably the most important thing that you can do when beginning in NationStates, and I implore that you look around before choosing. Some regions will try to conform your nation to their standards by forcing you to become a dictatorship, democracy or whatever else fits their mold; however, the region that I belong to, [region]Free Society[/region], accepts all types of nations and strives for individuality. Free Society is a region that has existed within the NationStates scene for just a few days, but we are growing fast. Everyone within [region]Free Society[/region] is extremely welcoming of new nations and of new members, and I can promise you that we would be honored to have you join with our region.

Above the promises of individuality and welcoming, [region]Free Society[/region] has so much more to offer. We have an off-site forum that allows all of the nations within the region of [region]Free Society[/region] to stay in touch with each other. Beyond this, [region]Free Society[/region] has taken the nation simulation side of the game to a new level and uses the off-site forum as a means to create regional legislation and function as a regional government, including elected offices.

We would appreciate it if you would give [region]Free Society[/region] a try (you can change regions whenever you want, an unlimited number of times, so there’s no risk of being trapped somewhere you don’t like);

If you have any questions whatsoever, please by all means simply send me a telegram.

Hope to see you around [region]Free Society[/region] soon!

Sincerely,

The Honorable Chancellor of Aidsboat
Free Society Minister of Defense

Post  Batiska Sun Sep 13, 2009 10:27 am

We are at this time 59 nations into the FS (I don't count the 2 Nations who have joined few minutes ago).
we are 35 members on this forum
around five of us never login (and most of them are still members of the region. It is their choice, maybe they are lookgin only as visitors).

It means 40% of the Nations member of FS have no idea of mapping, election, parties, etc.
40% of us in the region cannot vote for a President, a WA deleguate.
40% of us are managing their Nations under our region with no communication at all.

What is the benefit to have a big, big region with a lot of "excluded" nations who have no ideas of what is going on around them?

I agree. The 40% of us that do participate are great but everyone else is missing out on the elections, which will now be huge do to the AC.

Do the remaining 60% want to have something to do with our elections and stuff? Think of a real country, a lot of people don't vote, arent in a political party, and communicate with the president. This majority are citizens who just obey the law and make their own decisions etc. ....at least in a democracy....

Exactly. If they dont want to have anything to do with their Government or with their fellow nations, that is their problem. Besides, it is better for us because they more nations we have, the powerful we are. If we have some nations not participating, than we shouldnt care. That is their loss, not the region's.

Just to clarify the information. It is 60% (35 of 59 Nations) who are members of the forum and 40% who is not.

Your comparaison is not working at all. There is a big difference bewteewn a real country and FS: reality and a game.

Here, you are there because you decide to be there. You have the choice of region, just a click and it is done. No nations are created directly in FS. When I created Batiska, I was in North or south Pacific and got 2 invitations to join a new region. I visit them and decided it will be fun to join FS where the forum was, at this time, mandatory. I joined right away. If I didn't want to play more that what nationstate is offering, like this forum, I just had to not join and stayed in a quiet region, running my game.

I know being BIG seems important for some of us. No matter if a part of these Nations are a kind of "ghost". No matter if they don't participate to the life of the region. The important is being BIG. I don't know why. Maybe in real life some of you are friends with peoples of other regions and making a kind of challenge on who will be the bigger. I don't know.

I am for the concept of FREEDOM to choose whether to register or not. Mandatory registration helps noone. How are we hurt by people not registering? What if they just want to wait, say two weeks, for whatever reason.

I think mandatory registration is silly. I do like the letter though.

I know this debate is formally closed, but is it okay to make a vote of apathy?
And also, would it be possible for the Act to be revised to correct any errors of grammatical nature?

Hi Otunios,
Sure, you can make correction for grammatical error. Just post your copy here and I will modify the post on the vote topic.

English is not my first language, so this is the reason for these mistakes.

Ah, that explains it. I thought the errors were a bit ...odd.

"Forum Registration Act

1- Members of the Free Society enjoy not only the ability to deal with Nationstates issues, WA and other functionalities of this game, but also to add some interaction on different subjects by a Forum.

2- When invited to join our great region, Nations will be advised that we have more to offer with our forum where Members of the regions deals with different questions and issues.

3- They will be informed that joining the forum is required to be member of the Free Society Assembly and getting a voice and a vote on the politics of our region.

4- A message must be placed on the Free Society Web page to inform nations that resigstration to the Forum is mandatory.

5- Messages of what is going on on the forum must be published on the Free Society Web page to encourage Nations to subscribe.

6- A Nation that decides to join the region will have 7 days to join the forum.

7- After 7 days, a Nation will be rejected. A telegram can be sent before. "

Something has just occured to me.
You say 40% of our nations are not on the forum. Would it not be logical to pressume that said 40% haven't joined because they don't want to.
If the only way to get a say (join the regional assembly) is to be on the forum then all those in the assembly are those who have joined the forum and think it's a good idea. So logically there's a large number of people who would vote against it if they knew this debate was going on. For that reason I don't think the outcome of this vote will be accurate and thereby it is, in my eyes, pointless.

Unless of course, a survey is collected via telegram. To prevent bias

I published a message on the page of the region on NationStates. I got at this time no feedback.

I think also it is to members of he forum to decide if they accept members in the region who will not be a part of the region life.

Also, you weren't there at this time, but forum registration was mandatory at the begining. This requirement was removed by previous President for having a big region for a reason I still not know. Never got answers on the benefit of that.
